Amsterdam On A Backpacking Budget
Visiting a place like Amsterdam on a backpacking budget can be a challenge if you’re not properly prepared. It’s a good idea to look into accommodation quite early. Prices can explode on a weekend and if you don’t have prior reservations you will be paying a premium and may not even be in the city center. If booked early enough, Amsterdam offers affordable and clean hostel beds all over the city.
Once you’ve procured appropriate accommodation and are ready to enjoy Amsterdam, it’s quite easy and cheap to hit the streets and soak up a little bit of the trendiness and luxuriousness Amsterdam is all about. With more canals than a famous city in Italy, you’ll see why it was once widely known as the “Venice Of The North”.
The best and most memorable thing to do in Amsterdam in my opinion is just to walk and get a little lost while randomly exploring the canals, various corridors, alleys and shops along your way. This city is well known for it’s canals, beautiful architecture, the Red Light District and their world famous “Coffee Shops”.
Another popular thing to do for a traveler who isn’t looking to spend a fortune is to enjoy a picnic in the Vondel Park. The Vondel Park is the largest park in Amsterdam and is a popular place for biking, picnicking, people watching, sunbathing, walking, running and paddling. A day spent here lounging on the grass and enjoying one of the many free summer time concerts is a great shoestring budget activity that is an Amsterdam local favorite. Another sweet place to hang out is Dam Square. Dam Square is the historical center of the city and is only a ten minute walk from Centraal Station.
A favorite among travelers and tourist alike is to take a walking tour of the city provided by one of many knowledgeable tour companies advertised on the web, your accommodation and on signs throughout the city. A walking tour is a great way to learn the history and about notable events of the area. Definitely a memorable experience to take home and share.
Amsterdam Is Great For Budget Travelers
The impression Amsterdam left on me will have a lasting effect. Knowing I can see such a wonderful city on a shoestring budget and have a great time compels me to return as much as I can. It’s a great city to start or end your Euro Trip and leaves millions of visitors in awe year after year. I have a short time lapse video of an Amsterdam city bridge that I hope you’ll enjoy.
